When the year is approaching to a close and everyone is busy checking out their festive shopping carts, Jeff Bezos, Amazon's boss and founder, initiated what seems like highly science fictional topic that sets the chatter planet abuzz.
Just days ago, Jeff Bezos disclosed that planning has already started at Amazon to introduce human-less drone delivery planes. As of now, there is yet any concrete sign of when this will eventually become a reality but, all signs are suggesting that regulatory bottleneck to be the major hindrance rather than the technology itself.
Already pictures of drone bearing Amazon's logo are mushrooming all over the Internet. Some gets really ingeneous by jumping ahead of the pack and predict what the rules would be like when this insane idea come into reality.
Nonetheless until idea itself is being put into real action, thousands of questions and mysteries will remain and I am sure even guys at Amazon themselves have no clear clues. Just thinking out loud, there are a number of basic questions that Bezos (maybe) have the answer. Without much thinking, I can already come up with sets of questions that I'm sure most people would be asking too.
When this crazy stuff really become a reality, what are all the delivery men going to do? No doubt efficiency will be improved, but there will certainly be less jobs available. Will it be better for the economy as a whole or will it just be better for Amazon as they get to pocket all the savings?
Though none of us have seen these drones being deployed (I'd be interested if you have), some eco-conscious folks are quick to highlight that as these planes will be running on batteries, they will leave reduced amount of carbon footprint behind. But wait a minute, how about the earth elements which are required to build the thousands of drones (and their electric cells)?
We can obviously go on and on but for the time being, I'll keep all fingers crossed. Judging from the company's solid record in leading the technology revolution, I am one who believe they have what it takes to execute this highly ambitious project and I can't wait to see it becoming a reality.
